My sophomore year at W&M I moved into the first of three Ludwell apartments. Linda and Jane were my roommates, and Don was a frequent guest ...
The Ludwell apartments were built in the 1940s and had no air conditioning. But they were furnished and there was a very small kitchen. Much better than dorm rooms and because of the bus service, much better than living off campus.
There was a laundry room across the way ... a kitchen mouse we named Hiram (don't ask me why) ... good friends who lived across the hall ... a single phone on the landing of the second floor right outside our door that served the six apartments in the unit ... and some guys downstairs who liked to play Turn the beat around loudly and often, which we tried to discourage by banging on the floor with my geology hammer.
The third year I only made it through one semester at Ludwell as Don and I got married during the Christmas break and moved into our first home.

How sweet it is to be loved by you
How sweet it is to be loved by you was recorded by James Taylor in 1975, which is about the time this picture was taken, standing in the doorway of my dorm room on Dupont Third West at William and Mary ...
I'm wearing the necklace that Logan now has. And I'm pretty sure we were headed to a sorority dance (as guests) based on this picture ...
which seems to have been crashed by Art Garfunkel and David Lee Roth.
