Herb-age

It is amazing that the parsley made it through the winter. I removed the curly leaf parsley today since we prefer flat leaf parsley and planted onions in its place. Added some 6-2-2 fertilizer to the soil as well. The recycling bin has made a great planter because of its depth. It is placed on rolling wheels so it can be moved around for more or less sun as needed. Note the chives in the upper right corner. They also rebounded after being cut all the way back late this fall.  This was a nice surprise!

Onion sets, flat leaf parsley and chives

I also moved a cactus from the side yard that was getting a bit too large for its space. The new location will have unlimited room, better sun and a better view from the back breezeway and side path. Let's see how it does there.

This is one of two large brush piles in the backyard.  Time to burn!

The burn pile doesn't look that large to me in this picture ... what you need to know to get a sense of scale is that the logs in the lower left part of the picture are 4-5 feet long and 3-4 inches in diameter.  And the slender gray sapling that runs diagonally from the same lower left to upper right is 15 feet long.  Gonna be some bonfire!
